About Matthew Duell

Introducing Senior Litigation Attorney Matthew J. Duell, an undefeated trial attorney and unparalleled litigator with the prestigious Ward Law Group, PLLC.

Mr. Duell attended the University of Dayton and The American University of Paris, graduating with honors with a double major in Philosophy and Film Theory and a double minor in English and Theology.  Post undergraduate graduation, he worked in film and television production in both Los Angeles and New York City, working with some of the biggest stars in entertainment.

Mr. Duell then returned to The University of Dayton to study law and was awarded the prestigious Dean’s Scholarship. During his studies, Mr. Duell consistently performed at the top of his class, earning honors in Torts, Criminal Law, and Mock Trial.  He earned his Juris Doctorate in May of 2012.

Upon graduation, Mr. Duell returned to New York City and took the New York State Bar Examination, which, at the time, was regarded as the most difficult bar examination in the country.  Mr. Duell passed on his first attempt, and one of his essays was chosen as a model answer for future test takers to use as an example.

With admission to the New York State Bar, Mr. Duell began his career in personal injury litigation. He began his practice mainly focusing on assisting those who were impacted and injured by the horrible events of September 11th, 2001.  Through his zealous advocacy, Mr. Duell earned his clients over fifteen million dollars ($15,000,000.00) in awards from the federal Zadroga Act. Following this, he turned his practice focus to motor vehicle collisions, premises liability, municipal liability, and construction incidents.

Over more than a decade, Mr. Duell worked for some of the most well-respected personal injury firms in New York City before finding a home at The Ward Law Group, PLLC. Mr. Duell is a tireless champion for his clients with an undefeated record as a trial attorney. With his decade-long experience in the Supreme Courts of the State of New York, Mr. Duell’s hard work and dedication have earned his clients the compensation they so deeply deserve.

Mr. Duell has also worked for personal injury insurance defense firms in and around the Five Boroughs and Long Island. This knowledge gives him and The Ward Law Group an advantage when negotiating settlements and at trial, helping to ensure injured people are compensated justly.

In his time away from the office, Mr. Duell enjoys visiting the many art museums in and around New York City, spending time with his best friend (a lively and playful five-year-old Australian Sheppard), hiking, playing classical guitar, and, having been born in Ohio, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes every college football season.

Mr. Duell focuses his practice on motor vehicle collisions, slip/trip and fall incidents, construction injuries, and municipal incidents. He is admitted to the New York State Bar, The Second Federal District of New York, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
